Vancouver and Beyond

Starting today, motorists will be able to pay for parking by phone at all 7,800 on-street parking meters in Vancouver. The City of Vancouver is offering the service in partnership with Vancouver-based Verrus Mobile Technologies Inc.

All City of Vancouver parking meters will accept payment by mobile phone as an alternative to paying at the meter with coins. To use the service, drivers can simply phone 604-909-PARK (7275), provide the parking meter number, and the number of minutes required (up to the maximum time permitted). There will be no need to put coins in the meter. Drivers will have the ability to remotely extend their time if they are running late or receive a parking expiry reminder by text message. Drivers can also request that parking receipts be e-mailed to them, and monthly summary statements will be available on-line.

A 30-cent convenience fee will be charged for each pay-by-phone parking transaction. Text message reminders and parking receipts by e-mail are free of charge.

“Pay by Phone” has grown rapidly in popularity amongst drivers and parking operators. Already, nearly two dozen commercial and municipal parking organizations accept payment by Verrus throughout Canada, Europe and the United States.
